— The Milton School Board on Monday approved hiring Delavan-Darien School District educator Susan Probst as Milton's new special education director.

Milton School District officials said Probst was chosen from a field of applicants through district interviews this spring, and that she tentatively accepted the job last week. The board approved contracts for Probst and other staff at a meeting Monday.

Probst replaces outgoing Special Education and Pupil Services Director Krista Jones, who announced her resignation earlier this year after she accepted a similar position in the Cambridge School District.

Former Milton Schools Superintendent Bernie Nikolay is superintendent at Cambridge.

Probst has been director of special education and pupil services at the Delavan-Darien School District since January 2009, according to the district.

She has been an educator for 25 years, having earned a master's in special education at Kansas University. She specializes in emotional and behavioral disorders and is a certified learning strategies trainer, according to the district.

The Delavan-Darien School District has seen a mass exodus in recent weeks with Superintendent Wendy Overturf stepping down in May and Director of Curriculum and Instruction Tracy Deavers announcing her resignation in April.

Probst could not be reached for comment Monday.
