— The Janesville American Legion baseball team entered the seventh inning of its game against visiting Burlington needing three runs to keep its perfect record alive.

That is just what it got.

The Burlington third baseman bobbled Aric Bobzien’s hard grounder allowing Mike Heyerdahl to score the winning run, giving Janesville a 4-3 victory Monday night.

It was the team’s fourth win in as many games.

Charlie Meyer doubled to open the decisive seventh. Jake Welch’s long drive was caught near the fence, but Meyer moved to third.

Brady Brandt drove in Meyer with a single to cut Burlington’s advantage to 3-2. Heyerdahl singled Brandt to third and moved to second on the throw.

Dylan Hoskins then delivered a sacrifice to score Brandt with the tying run, and Bobzien’s hard grounder gave the local team the win.

Colin Frey pitched Janesville’s third straight complete game. Frey allowed four hits and four walks, while striking out one.

“Our pitchers have been doing a great job keeping us in games,” Janesville coach Bob Schenck said. “And we’re getting the hits when we need them.

“That was a good Burlington team,” Schenck said. “That’s the type of game we’re going to play all year.”

Janesville plays at Genoa City tonight. The game starts at 7 p.m.
