— Ryan J. Schroeder filed his declaration of candidacy papers Friday for the newly configured 31st Assembly District, according to the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board.

He will run as a Democrat.

Rep. Amy Loudenbeck, R-Clinton, who represents the 45th District, earlier declared her candidacy for the 31st.

Schroeder, 37, a lifelong Delavan resident, said the Republican-proposed changes in redistricting played a role in his decision to run.

"I'm tired of seeing what's been done at the state capitol in terms of the way the redistricting lines were drawn—behind closed doors—that has really done a disservice to residents, particularly by cutting in half the Delavan-Darien School District," Schroeder said.

"I think certainly a lot of people would rather have a representative from Walworth County running in this position, rather than someone who doesn't know these communities. I'm up to taking on the challenge."

Schroeder is chief of staff to Rep. Josh Zepnick, D-Milwaukee.

This spring, Schroeder ran for Delavan mayor but was defeated by incumbent Mel Niewuenhuis.

Schroeder served on the Delavan City Council from 1999 to 2009 and 2011 to the present. He has served as council president and vice president.

Loudenbeck is a first-term Republican who is a former town of Clinton supervisor.

Rep. Stephen L. Nass, R-Whitewater, now in the 31st District, will run in the 33rd District this fall, and faces Democrat Scott Allan Woods and Libertarian Terry Virgil.

The 31st Assembly District has been redrawn to include more of central and northern Walworth County, as well as western Rock County and parts of Jefferson County.

As expected, the Janesville Gazette fails to do any meaningful reporting, such as asking Mr. Schroeder if he had won the mayor's race in Delavan, would he still be running for a state gig that if won, would force him to resign. Or, given the fact liberal democrat Schroeder claimed allegiance to Delavan and in specific downtown Delavan during his failed mayoral bid, how does he now explain his willingness to abandon them if another group of voters are willing to give him more votes than those who know him best did when they soundly rejected him for Delavan Mayor for the second time.

How does Democrat Ryan Schroeder know if Representative Amy Loudenbeck knows these communities or not? And, if that's his argument, then he has no business running since part of the district is in Rock and Jefferson counties, where he may not 'know' the communities as well as Rep. Loudenbeck. In April, Schroeder badly lost his campaign for Delavan mayor, losing a second time to Mayor Mel Nieuwenhuis. Schroeder campaigned on his commitment to Delavan, downtown Delavan, etc. So much for commitment. If he wins this race, he must move and resign his city council seat. If he's so committed to Delavan, including wanting to be mayor, why doesn't Schroeder run in the assembly district he lives in? Maybe because one city in that district, his own, flatly rejected him at the ballot box in April. In his obsession for political power and winning higher office, clearly he will go, do and say anything. His own quotes contradict why he should be running and assume things about his candidate he surely doesn't know. Loudenbeck's family has a history of family farming in Walworth County. Oooops, guess Schroeder didn't bother to check facts before spouting off. It turns out Loudenbeck was on the Town of Linn fire department and lived in Lake Geneva. So, Schroeder kicks off his campaign for a district he doesn't live in by going negative on his opponent and getting it wrong. Hopefully voters won't be tricked by Schroeder who is now distributing campaign literature which fails to mention his Democrat party membership or give any indication to his loyalty to the liberal left in terms of policy issues even though he's been helping his boss, liberal Milwaukee Democrat Rep. Zepnick battle against keeping taxes low, wiping out the deficit, and capping property taxes. Add deception to Schroeder's kickoff and campaign tactics.

belman the differences are distinct.

Do you even know this guys election history? He has been a city alderman, twice. In addition to being an alderman he has run for mayor twice and state assembly four times. What office does he want? If he wants to be an alderman why run for mayor and assembly person? If he wants to be mayor why run for assembly person? If he wants to be assembly person why run for mayor? He has claimed to be a republican and then claimed to be a democrat. His only consistency has been to run. There has been no consistency from his messages, what office he wants to hold, or what he wants to accomplish.

That's all this guy does is run for other posts. Proof his goal is not policy or ideals, but just getting elected, exactly what is NOT needed in this state.
