State needs mix of two ideologies
If you were saving money for a car, would you cut back spending on a couple of things? Or would you also try to save money on everything and also get a job in order to supplement your income?
After passage of Gov. Walkerís budget repair bill, the government was able to severely cut funding from several government agencies, especially benefits and those related to bargaining rights for government employees. However, in order to solve the deficit in our state, we need a collective effort, including cutting funding in small portions from all programs and a slight raise in taxes.
Since passage of the governorís bill, school districts have been able to decrease and even eliminate their debts. However, our state still has a severe deficit and furious employees called for a recall of our governor for the first time ever. These employees know that it is necessary for the government to do more than simply cut their pay.
A representative from the Wisconsin Education Association Council said that if we were to cut back on tax loopholes given to private corporations, we could save enough to restore some of the benefits taken from teachers.
But a representative in support of the bill stated that the repair bill successfully closed the deficit and even created a surplus.
A mixture of these two ideologies is needed to control the debt in our state.
