— Albion stayed unbeaten in Home Talent League baseball with Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Evansville.

Albion (6-0) leads the West Division of the Southeast Section. Evansville is 2-4.

The pitchers’ duel wasn’t

decided until the ninth inning, when Albion pushed across the game’s lone run.

Ben Everson led off with a walk. The next batter, Jim Eastman, attempted to bunt but pulled back. Evansville’s catcher tried to throw out Everson, who likely would have been out with an accurate strike to first. But the throw went into right field, allowing Everson to advance to third.

Eastman then hit a fly ball into left-center, where Evansville’s Jon Frey made a diving catch. Everson scored on the play.

Albion pitcher Matt Buhrow tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out 10.

Evansville pitcher Matt Drefahl also went the distance, giving up four hits, three walks and striking out five.

Albion’s Jesse Appel went 2-for-3 at the plate. He was the only batter in the game with more than one hit, and there were no extra-base hits.
