— Sam McCann dominated in Milton’s 7-2 Division 1 regional final win over Stoughton on Thursday.

The senior righthander struck out 13 in five scoreless innings to lead the Red Hawks back to the sectional for the first time since 2007.

Milton (15-6) plays Madison La Follette (15-8) in a sectional semifinal at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Pohlman Field in Beloit.

Milton scored three runs in the bottom of the second. Connor Bowen’s two-run single started the scoring, and Justin Gunderson’s RBI single made it 3-0.

The Red Hawks blew the game open with four in the fifth, capped off by Dane Burman’s two-run double.

“We had a little layoff, so it was nice to come out and play a pretty good game,” Milton first-year coach Ryan Neuenschwander said. “The way Sam was throwing, we didn’t need a lot of runs, but it was nice to get those four in the fifth.

“Sam’s pitch count was at 81, and with a seven-run lead, I wanted to get Dane some work.”

Stoughton finished with only three hits and finished 11-13.
