Janesville Craig soccer blanks Union Grove

— Janesville Craig blanked visiting Union Grove, 4-0, Thursday in a WIAA Division 1 girls soccer regional opener.

The No. 6-seeded Cougars (9-9-5) play No. 3-seeded Racine Case at Racine Horlick at 11 a.m. on Saturday in a regional final. Case defeated Wilmot, 9-0, to advance to Saturday’s matchup.

Bianca Figueroa scored a pair of goals for Craig. The Cougars grabbed a 3-0 first-half lead on goals from Monica Speth, Figueroa and Kristi Crandall. Figueroa scored in the second half for the final outcome.

“Our players did a nice job,” Craig coach Bill McCabe said. “Union Grove is a nice team, and we did a good job against them.’’

Craig’s defense limited the Broncos to just two shots on goal. Maddie Schroeder and Katie Villa each made a save.

The Broncos were the 11th seed in the sectional.
