Albion clinches West
ALBION Albion worked overtime before finally edging Stoughton, 8-7, in 13 innings Sunday to clinch the West Division title of the Southeast Section in Home Talent League baseball.
Albion (14-1) scored the winning run on a two-out RBI single by Jesse Appel, who went 4-for-7 at the plate. The winning run was scored by Aaron Laskowski, who was 5-for-6 and drove in three runs.
Ben Everson earned the victory with 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Albion appeared in control with a 6-2 lead, but Stoughton (8-7) rallied with three runs in the eighth and two in the ninth to take a 7-6 advantage.
Albion came back to tie it in the ninth. Ryan Stace doubled and scored on an error to extend the game.
The West Division title assures Albion will host playoff games throughout the sectional playoffs.
Albion wraps up the regular season next Sunday at home against McFarland.
n McFarland 7, Evansville 6—Evansville led
1-0 early, but McFarland scored three runs in the fifth inning for a 3-1 lead on its way to victory.
Evansville rallied for four runs in the ninth.
Matt Drefahl blanked McFarland through the first three innings. Jeremy Rasmussen allowed nine hits, but allowed only two earned runs as Evansville
(5-10) committed six errors.
