Delavan-Darien School Board to review superintendent candidates
DELAVAN The Delavan-Darien School Board will consider three candidates for interim superintendent at a closed session meeting Thursday.
Robert Crist, Scott Sarnow and Paul Amundson, all former Wisconsin school superintendents, are being considered for the post.
The district parted ways with Superintendent Wendy Overturf on May 17 after a contentious series of parent meetings in 2011 and a significant turnover of school board members in the spring election.
The board then appointed business administrator Carey Bradley as interim administrator.
Initially, the board was considering hiring a permanent administrator but decided to hold off hiring until they had more time to consider their choices.
The interim superintendent will serve for the upcoming school year.
The board will meet in closed session for the discussion of the candidates and then might reconvene in open session with a vote on the discussion.
Crist was director of human resources and later superintendent of Wisconsin Rapids Public Schools until she retired in 2010, according to a May 2011 biography of Crist on the Marshfield Clinic website.
Crist served on the Marshfield Clinic’s security health plan board.
Paul Amundson is the former Omro School District superintendent and high school principal.
Amundson had almost nine months on his superintendent’s contract when he was asked to step down by his school board, according to a story the Oshkosh Northwestern published in October 2011.
The board paid $182,000 in salaries and benefits to buy out his contract.
At the time, Omro School Board President Peter Kromm said the board made the deal after a year-long performance improvement plan didn’t bring the desired results, according to the Oshkosh Northwestern story.
Amundson told the Northwestern he suspected the main reason for the board’s dissatisfaction stemmed from failed school referendums.
Sarnow was the director of the Richfield School District, and superintendent in the Royall School District in Elroy.

This is the best they can do? Bring one candidate out of retirement and another who was fired? They need a recruiter!
