Arrests
-- JASON E. LOVETT, 48, of 465 N. Washington St., Janesville, on a charge of burglary at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of North Washington Street, Janesville. A neighbor of a house in the 1500 block of Frederick Street, Janesville, noticed a suspicious vehicle circling the block before seeing the suspect leave the vehicle and enter the house next door, so she called 911. When police arrived, Lovett had already left by climbing through a back window. Police then obtained information about Lovett’s whereabouts and through a consent search found him hiding in the closet underneath a blanket in an apartment in the 400 block of North Washington Street. During their investigation, police also found property that appeared to have been taken in other burglaries that might not have been reported yet.
-- MELVIN L. BROWN, 42, Madison, at noon Tuesday at the Dane County Jail on a Rock County warrant for failing to report to jail. The warrant stems from a March 2010 case. Also arrested on two counts of civil contempt of court.
Intoxicated driving arrests
-- EFRAIN J. NUNEZ, 28, Chicago, at 9:44 p.m. Monday on Highway 140 in the town of Bradford. Also charged with speeding.
-- BRANDON R. BALES, 25, Winchester, Ind., at 1:13 a.m. Tuesday on Craig Avenue at Randall Avenue in Janesville.
-- JAMES H. GLYNN, 58, Fort Atkinson, at 10:33 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 26 at County Line Road in the town of Milton.

-- BURGLARY reported at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday to a home in the 300 block of East Racine Street, Janesville. When homeowners returned home after being gone for two days, they found their 2000 Ford mini van that was parked in the driveway, a kitchen knife, bicycle, some ice cream and liquor missing. Police later found the unoccupied van at Traxler Park. Whoever took the vehicle started a fire inside it, but the fire went out before burning up the van. It is being held by police as they continue their investigation.
-- BURGLARY reported at 3:37 a.m. Thursday at the Liquor Cabinet, 1924 E. Milwaukee St., Janesville, after an alarm alerted police, who found the front glass doors completely smashed out, alcohol missing and at least one bottle of alcohol that was dropped in the alleyway behind the business.
-- BURGLARY reported at 5:38 p.m. Sunday to a home in the 2300 block of North Lexington Drive, Janesville. The home is for sale, and during a showing it was noticed that copper piping had been cut and removed from the basement.
-- BURGLARY reported at 11:41 a.m. July 20 near Beckman Mill Park in Beloit. Construction trailers was broken into and an all-terrain vehicle and a variety of tools, with a total value of $10,400, were missing.
Fire calls
-- TREE FIRE after a lightning strike at 2:40 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Garfield Avenue and Walker Street, Janesville. A neighbor reported a lightning strike and saw hot embers falling from the tree. When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a small pile of burned branches lying on the sidewalk along with a dead squirrel and a bird’s nest. Firefighters doused water on the burning branches and the tree.
