— The pitching of Andy Kersten and Adam Greene could not overcome the lack of hitting for the Janesville American Legion baseball team Thursday night.

Kersten and Greene combined for 15 strikeouts and limited host Genoa City to six hits, but Janesville could not get to Genoa City ace Cal Rohrman and lost 3-0 in the District AAA tournament here.

Rohrman held Post 205 to one single by Sam McCann in pitching a complete-game shutout.

“He pitched well,” Janesville coach Bob Schenck said of Rohrman, “but we are in a team slump right now. It is unbelievable. It’s teamwide.”

Kersten pitched the first seven innings for Janesville, allowing just six hits and three walks and two earned runs. He struck out 13.

Greene pitched two scoreless innings, striking out a pair.

“The pitchers did their job, no doubt about it,” Schenck said. “We just have to snap out of our offensive funk.”

Janesville (26-14) faces the challenge of winning four straight games to earn a berth in the state tournament. That road begins at 8 p.m. today with an elimination game against the loser of Thursday night’s late game between Kenosha and Burlington.
