Texas pilot injured in crash near Brodhead Airport
TOWN OF SPRING GROVE — A Texas pilot was in serious condition Monday afternoon at University Hospital in Madison after his plane crashed into a cornfield Sunday near the Brodhead Airport.
According to the Green County Sheriff's Department:
Kevin M. Purtee, 50, Austin, Texas, was flying a small plane Sunday when he experienced engine problems and headed back to the Brodhead Airport. The plane crashed into a cornfield in the N2300 block of Bellanca Lane, just south of the airport.
Brodhead firefighters extricated Purtee, who was flown by Med Flight to University Hospital.
The airplane received severe damage and was transported to the Brodhead Airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration responded to the scene and is investigating.
The Juda Fire Department, Monroe EMS, Brodhead EMS and Brodhead Police Department also assisted at the scene.
