Rock County 4-H Fair kicks off Tuesday; fair royalty announced

— The Rock County 4-H Fair kicks off Tuesday with $4 admission and the royalty coronation at 7 p.m. at the fairgrounds, 1301 Craig Ave., Janesville.

The fair runs through Sunday, July 29. Regular admission is $5 for ages 7 to 12 and $8 for adults 13 and older except for Thursday, July 26, when admission is $4 for those 62 and older. For a complete schedule, click here.

The royalty will be crowned at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Rock County 4-H Fairgrounds grandstand.

Twenty-two young men and women are competing to be 2012 Rock County 4-H king or queen.

The candidates are:

-- Bethany Sly, daughter of Harold and Kelly Sly, an 11th-year member of Avon 4-H. Her projects have included swine, beef, child development and photography.

-- Grace VanVeldhuisen, daughter of Derek and Kathy VanVeldhuisen, a 12th-year member of Badger 4-H. Her projects have included youth leadership, foods and nutrition, home environment and rabbits.

-- Caleb Marita, son of David and Anita Marita, a fourth-year member of Clinton 4-H. His projects have included woodworking, electricity and dogs.

-- Sarah Tallman, daughter of Dean and Julie Tallman, is a fourth-year member of Clinton FFA. She served as chapter secretary, and has been involved in judging contests, leadership conventions and recruitment week.

-- Billy Phalin, son of Todd and Karen Phalin, a 10th-year member of Consolidated 4-H. His projects have included bicycling, foods and nutrition, youth leadership and Cloverbuds.

-- Kelsey Braukhoff, daughter of Dan and Denise Braukhoff, a 12th-year member of Consolidated 4-H. Her projects have included dairy, swine, houseplants and visual arts.

-- Danielle Ringhand, daughter of Eric and Michelle Ringhand, a fifth-year member of Evansville 4-H. Her projects have included visual arts and drawing and painting.

-- Emily Templeton, daughter of Don and Amy Templeton, a fourth-year member of Evansville FFA. Her projects have included dairy, swine, cats and exploring.

-- Samantha Atkinson, daughter of Mark and Kenlyn Atkinson, a 13th-year member of Fulton 4-H. Her projects have included shooting sports, archery, nature space and crocheting.

-- Cody Kleven, son of Randy and Linda Kleven, a 13th-year member of Harmony 4-H. His projects have included swine, rabbits and poultry.

-- Kaylyn Funk, daughter of David and Julie Funk, a fourth-year member of Janesville Craig FFA. Her projects include dairy and sheep.

-- Abbey Olson, daughter of Todd and Sarah Olson, a fourth-year member of Janesville Parker FFA. Her projects include dairy, beef, rabbits and photography.

-- Hannah Robbins, daughter of Dale Robbins, a 10th-year member of Johnstown 4-H. Her projects have included goats, photography and rabbits.

-- Erica Ballmer, daughter of Ronna and the late Jerry Ballmer, a 12th-year member of La Prairie 4-H. Her projects have included swine, dairy, veterinary science and crops.

-- Krissa Stork, daughter of Alan and Carla Stork, a 10th-year member of Lima 4-H. Her projects have included dairy, swine, poultry and leather craft.

-- Felicia May, daughter of Jody and Christine May, an 11th-year member of Magnolia 4-H. Her projects include dairy, horseless horse, visual arts and child development.

-- Lauren Metcalf, daughter of Terry and Jane Metcalf, a 13th-year member of Milton 4-H. Her projects have included clothing, sheep, home environment, photography and woodworking.

-- Sierra Mullen, daughter of Jon Hassinger and Marcy Mullen, a fifth-year member of Milton FFA. Her projects include swine, sheep, rabbits and veterinary science.

-- Jon Jennings, son of Wesley and Laurie Jennings, a sixth-year member of Milton FFA. His projects have included sheep, poultry, crops and electricity.

-- Shane Hutter, son of Gene and Beth Hutter, a 12th-year member of Newark 4-H. His projects have included rabbits, nature space, poultry and visual arts.

-- Stephanie Drefahl, daughter of Dan and Christine Drefahl, a ninth-year member of Spring Valley 4-H. Her projects include photography, foods and nutrition, visual arts and houseplants.

-- Megan Jass, daughter of Marsha Jass, is a ninth-year member of Turtle 4-H. Her projects have included rabbits, swine, beef and poultry.
