— A Janesville assistant principal has announced plans to leave the district.

Parker High School Assistant Principal Dan Keyser said he is leaving to become the director of curriculum in the Monroe School District.

The move is pending school board approvals in Janesville and Monroe, said Steve Sperry, administrative and human services director with the Janesville district. Keyser's resignation is effective July 31.

Keyser started as a teacher in math and science at Craig High School in 1999 and became assistant principal at Parker in 2004, Sperry said. In his current role, he handled attendance and discipline. He also supervised the math and science areas.

Administrators are wishing Keyser the best in his move from an assistant principal to a director, Sperry said.

"It is going to be a loss for not only Parker but the district in not having Dan available," he said. "One of his additional strengths has been his work with technology with the district."

Keyser also served on the district's student discipline committee and response to intervention committee.

The district plans to post the anticipated opening for an assistant principal at Parker, Sperry said. He hopes to recommend a candidate for the job to the school board at its Aug. 14 meeting.

Thank you so much for your years of hard work, kindness, and support for both students and staff! Your absence will be a tough spot to fill. Too bad Janesville didn't take advantage of having you on board by helping you achieve your professional goals here in the district. Best wishes, happiness, and fulfillment to you!

Why does a school principal with a huge salary need an assistant during times of extreme austerity? Can't the principal multitask?
