— The Lake County Captains scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning Monday to gain a 9-8 victory over the Beloit Snappers and a series sweep in Midwest League baseball.

Beloit reliever Corey Williams (2-4) was his own worst enemy, putting the winning run on base with a throwing error and uncorking a two-out wild pitch to allow Lake County’s Leonardo Castillo to score from third after he advanced on a pop foul and an outfield fly.

Miguel Sano smacked a solo home run, and Steve Liddle hit a two-run shot as part of the Snappers’ eight-hit attack.

Beloit trailed 8-5 after five innings, but tied it with three runs in the sixth on Drew Leachman’s three-run double.
