Averkamp leads Point over Whitewater women

UW-Whitewater’s women’s basketball team was no match for Ashley Averkamp and UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday night.

Averkamp had 24 points to lead the Pointers to a convincing 80-58 WIAC win over the Warhawks.

Whitewater (15-4, 6-4) fell behind early and could not recover. Mary Merg had 14 ponts to lead the Warhawks, while Jamie Swanson and Cortney Kumerow added 12 and 11, respectively.

Stevens Point (16-3, 8-2), ranked 12th in the country in Division III, also got 18 points and 11 rebounds from Sam Barber.

The Warhawks play host to first-place Eau Claire at 3 p.m. Saturday.
