Parker girls breeze; Craig falters in second half

Janesville Parker High School made short work out of Madison Memorial, rolling to a 67-14 victory Saturday in Big Eight Conference girls basketball.


Parker improves to 6-3 in the Big Eight and 9-4 overall. Memorial falls to 1-9 and 1-11.


The Vikings led 13-2 after the first quarter and 27-5 at the half. Parker held Memorial scoreless in the third quarter.


Parker’s Dani Fugate scored 11 points and was the lone player to reach double figures. Jackie Shepler made a pair of three-point baskets, and Fugate and Thompson sank one three apiece.


Parker hosts Madison La Follette on Tuesday.

Craig falls in second half


Janesville Craig High School was on to a good thing in the first half against Madison West, but the Regents turned the tables in the second half to post a 40-27 victory in Big Eight Conference girls basketball.


The loss drops Craig to 5-4 in the Big Eight and 6-5 overall. West improves to 9-1 and 11-1.


The Cougars held a 16-10 halftime lead over the Big Eight co-leaders, but West hammered Craig, 17-4, in the third quarter to take command.


“They got out on the break and got some turnovers,” Craig coach Kerry Storbakken said. “We didn’t give them that in the first half.’’


Neither team produced a player in double figures. West made two three-point baskets and Craig made none.


Nicole Kelly scored eight points for Craig. Brooke Negus, Michaela Holzhuter and Kylee Kennedy scored five points apiece for Craig.


Craig plays at 7 p.m. Monday at Madison East.
