The Walworth County Sheriff's Office reported progress Thursday in the investigation of a shooting incident involving two hunters and a masked suspect.

A couple seen in the area at the time of the shooting have been contacted and interviewed, said Capt. Dana Nigbor.

"We are also following up on tips the department has received," Nigbor said. "The investigation is moving along."

Locating and interviewing the couple has not led to a description of the gunman, but information they provided was helpful, said Detective Robert Craig.

"The couple helped us create a more detailed timeline of the incident," Craig said.

A male hunter and his son reported that a masked man shot at the father. The father returned fire and the suspect fled. No injuries were reported.

Nigbor has asked hunters for assistance in the investigation, which focuses on an area in Walworth County close to the Jefferson County line in the Town of LaGrange. The shooting occurred near the intersection of Bluff and Tamarack roads shortly before 8:30 a.m. Jan. 7.

"We are asking those with trail cams in that area to closely review the video they have from that time of day on Jan. 7," Nigbor said. "There may be something in those videos overlooked initially."

Craig asked that tips be emailed to walworthcotips@co.walworth.wi.us.

Anyone with information about the shooting also can contact Craig at (262) 741-4425.
