Warhawks pull away

— UW-Whitewater took advantage of host UW-Oshkosh’s cold shooting to post a 62-45 victory Wednesday in WIAC men’s basketball.

The Warhawks, ranked fifth in the D3hoops.com poll, led 30-26 after the first half, but held Oshkosh to 19 points in the second half to seal the victory.

Whitewater improved to 7-1 in the WIAC and 16-1 overall. The Warhawks are tied for first place with UW-Stevens Point with River Falls in third at 6-2.

Oshkosh falls to 0-8 and 4-13.

The Warhawks downed the Titans without Chris Davis, the WIAC’s leading scorer, who was resting an injury.

Alex Edmunds was the Warhawks’ leading scorer with 14 points. Luke Noble added 12 points and Elkhorn graduate Eric Bryson and Janesville Craig graduate Lucas Burns scored 10 points apiece.

Whitewater shot 49 percent from the field (26 of 53), while Oshkosh shot 40 percent (17 of 43).

Whitewater travels to UW-Stout at 6 p.m. Saturday.
