Buckeyes top Spartans; Lions rout Cornhuskers

— Tayler Hill scored 21 points to help No. 11 Ohio State beat Michigan State, 64-56, in Big Ten women’s basketball Sunday.

Ohio State (17-1, 4-1 Big Ten) handed the Spartans (12-6, 4-1) their first loss in the conference.

After Michigan State pulled within three points for a second time in the final minutes, Samantha Prahalis made a jumper and two free throws to give Ohio State a seven-point lead with 35 seconds left. Prahalis finished with 15 points.

Courtney Schiffauer scored 12 points to lead the Spartans.

In other Big Ten action Sunday:

-- Penn State 93, (15) Nebraska 73—At Lincoln, Neb., Maggie Lucas scored 24 points to lead five Nittany Lions in double figures as Penn State overwhelmed Nebraska in the second half.

Penn State (13-4, 3-2) trailed by six at half, but came out strong, holding Nebraska (15-2, 4-1) to just two field goals in the first eight minutes after the break.

The Nittany Lions outscored the Huskers 26-9 in that stretch, taking their first lead of the game at 48-46 on Zhaque Gray’s jumper with 18:08 left.

Emily Cady had 17 points to lead Nebraska.

-- (17) Purdue 57, Iowa 55—At West Lafayette, Ind., Brittany Rayburn scored 14 points and came up with a key block late to help Purdue defeat Iowa.

Rayburn made two free throws with 17.5 seconds left, then blocked Kelly Krei’s potential game-winning three-pointer on the other end.

Courtney Moses added 10 points for the Boilermakers (15-3, 5-0), who won their eighth straight.

Morgan Johnson scored 16 points to lead the Hawkeyes (10-8, 2-3).
