JANESVILLE Authorities reported relatively few problems from the season's first significant snowfall Thursday.
Janesville police had been dispatched to about 12 crashes or runoffs by late afternoon, but fewer problems were reported on rural roads covered by the sheriff's office, said Brian Becker, supervisor at the Rock County Communications Center.
Two or three injury accidents were reported, but none resulted in serious injuries, Becker said.
The snow started falling a short time after daybreak Thursday. By mid-afternoon, a couple inches were on the ground.
Forecasters were calling for a total of 3 to 5 inches of snow. Snowfall was expected to end Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
The weekend forecast calls for partly sunny skies and highs in the 20s.

Look mickie, I have kids, and a business to run that isn't located in my home. I drive a Cavalier and live in the country, didn't have any problems in town or on the county roads. Before you start complaining about how bad the road conditions are, use your brain and learn how to drive in the snow. Have you never drove in snow before with a car? I'm guessing you would be the type to b!tch and moan if the city goes over budget on snow removal, but still b!tch and moan if the road was clear.

I'm perfectly comfortable driving in it, but the city was pretty stupid on this one. They should have been working to clear the slush that came first. Yesterday afternoon Milton Ave was a dangerous mess. This morning East Milwaukee was still a mess. I don't have the luxury of sitting home and not driving in it. Considering the city hasn't had to spend much on plowing this year, there is no excuse for some of the main roads to have been as bad as they were. I just hope by the time I go home for lunch (from that job I'm required to be at) that E. Milwaukee is cleaned up. My little side street to nowhere was plowed better than E. Mke this morning.

I'm with slippery. If you aren't comfortable driving in it stay home. Everyone is safer.

Good pointS MICKIE - I agree with you 100% and still don't understand the lack of salt at various busy intersections. It is easy for others to say stay home, but picking up kids and getting to work are necessary.

LOL- sorry slippery-- guess you dont understand that some people HAVE to go pick up kids etc.. Some may even have to go to work. Next time use your brain, not everyone has the luxury to just sit home.

You don't like how the roads are, stay home. The way it was coming down its pointless for the city to try to keep up with it. Come on, is this your first winter?

Its January 12- the plows/salt trucks have really not had to be out. SO WHY NOT USE THEM TODAY? What idiots we have calling the shots in this town! This was a terrible slime/slush to deal with today! And why?? Because for some reason nobody decided to send a plow or a salt truck out!

Really ??? the scanner was busy all day long. I know they only specificaly said Jvl, and Rock county but I don't believe it...friends on FB have posted the numerous accidents they saw and all of the run offs. Just north of Milton a bad accident closed hwy 26, and a semi jack knifed in Dane County. Tow trucks are very busy tonight still as well.
