Slow start hurts Milton Red Hawks, other scores

A sluggish first half Tuesday night cost Milton High’s girls basketball team a share of first place in the Badger South Conference.


Monona Grove raced out to a 16-point halftime lead and cruised to a 63-53 win.


Taylor Nelson had 19 points to lead Monona Grove (10-0, 4-0), which stayed one-game ahead of idle Madison Edgewood in the Badger South.


Milton (5-5, 2-2), which scored only three points in the second quarter, got 17 points from Morgan Blumer and 16 from Sydney Harms.

-- Delavan-Darien 49, Big Foot 47—Delavan-Darien got the last surge during a back-and-forth fourth quarter to edge visiting Walworth Big Foot in a nonconference girls game.


The Comets (3-6) hit 11 of 17 free throws in the fourth quarter, which began with the teams tied at 34. A halfcourt three-point shot by Big Foot was just off the mark at the buzzer.


Kylie Collins had 15 points, while Amanda McLernon added 12 for the Comets.


Brittani Isham had 14 points and Jen Petkoff 12 for the Chiefs (1-8).
