— Local tavern owners this weekend reported two more burglaries in a string of reports around the county since mid-December.

A forced break-in was reported at 6:30 a.m. Monday at Back Bar, 1901 Beloit Ave., Janesville, and at 6:51 a.m. at Charlie's Place, 2020 E. Racine St., Janesville. Janesville police were investigating the reports Monday, and details were not available.

It is not clear if the break-ins are connected to others around Janesville and Milton in December and January. In most cases, burglars are taking cash from the bars, often from gambling machines.

Authorities around Rock County as well as neighboring counties are cooperating to probe similar burglaries, Capt. Todd Christiansen of the Rock County Sheriff's Office said.

Authorities are searching for two people who evaded Milton police in a pickup truck during a high-speed chase Wednesday. The pursuit came minutes before officers learned Gopher's Bar and Grill, 229 N. Janesville St., had been burglarized.

Police found the truck in Illinois but did not find the driver or passenger.
