Janesville Craig gymnasts victorious

Janesville Craig’s gymnastics team came out of the holiday break with a Big Eight Conference dual meet victory Thursday night.

The Cougars, behind wins from Ashley McGoey and Ashley Pohlman, finished with 132.025 in edging Sun Prairie’s 131.35.

Craig improved to 2-1 in the Big Eight with the win.

“We were a little rusty coming off the break, but we performed well enough to get the win,” Craig coach Jean Welch said.

“Ashley McGoey continues to have a real nice comeback season for us, and Ashley Pohlman had a nice meet, too.”

Pohlman won the vault with a score of 9.225, while McGoey won the floor exercise with a score of 8.875.

Craig competes at the Westosha Invitational on Saturday.

-- Memorial 128.375, Parker 123.25—Caroline Smith finished first in every event to lead Madison Memorial past visiting Janesville Parker.

Parker’s Hailey Leisten finished second to Smith in the all-around, after finishing second in both the vault and uneven bars.

“As a team, we’re making improvements,” said Parker coach Cathy Lehmann. “Our skill level is going up. That’s a plus.”

The Vikings compete in the Westosha Invitational on Saturday.
