Middleton takes Big Eight gym title

— Middleton made itself right at home at the Big Eight Conference gymnastics meet Saturday.

The host Cardinals earned the meet championship with a score of 140.125. Verona/Madison Edgewood was second at 136.475.

Janesville Craig came in third at 135.75. Janesville Parker was seventh at 128.55.

“Middleton was kind of untouchable today,” Craig coach Jean Welch said. “Our girls did a very nice job. We had several medallists and had a pretty decent team score.”

Craig’s Ashley McGoey had the top finish among local competitors. McGoey took fourth place on the floor exercise with a 9.125 score.

Parker’s top finish came from Hailey Leisten, who finished eighth on the uneven bars with a score of 8.525.

Craig’s Courtney Pohlman finished seventh in the all-around with a 34.925.

Both Craig and Parker compete in the sectional meet at Burlington. The competition begins at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
