Friday night’s WIAA Division 2 state boys swimming and diving meet went according to plan.

Ryan O’Donnell and McFarland dominated the meet, while the Milton Red Hawks made a strong showing behind Spencer Mattox and Brandon Benson.

McFarland easily won its sixth straight team title with 325 points behind another incredible performance from O’Donnell. The University of Wisconsin recruit broke two Division 2 records in winning the 200 individual medley in 1:48.14 and the 100 backstroke in 48.35. The backstroke time broke the 1994 state record of 49.61 set by former Olympian and Verona graduate Neil Walker.

Cedarburg finished a distant second in the team race with 249.5, while Milton was sixth with 136.

Benson had Milton’s top finish. The junior was second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.34. Monona Grove’s Jack Allen won the event in 50.45.

Mattox was third in the 100 breaststroke in 58.45. McFarland’s Jack Mandli won the event with a record time of 56.43, breaking the mark set by O’Donnell’s older brother, Derrick, in 2006. Mattox also finished sixth in the 200 IM.

Milton’s 200 medley relay team of Mattox, Benson, Jack Lunaas and John Toberman were third with a time of 1:40.38. The Red Hawks’ Lunaas, Mattox, Benson and Chris Wecker were fifth in the 200 freestyle relay.
