— The Janesville Bluebirds and Tanner Woodman won a WIAA regional title Thursday night.

Woodman had two goals and four assists to lead the city’s boys co-op hockey team to a 6-3 win over the co-op team of Whitefish Bay/University School/Divine Savior Holy Angels/Homestead/Nicolet/Saint Thomas More/Shorewood at the Janesville Ice Arena.

Janesville (14-10-1) plays the winner of tonight’s Beloit Memorial vs. Kettle Moraine game Tuesday night.

The Bluebirds jumped on the Storm early with two first-period goals. Woodman scored on an unassisted goal at 4:47 of the first, and Connor Perkins made it 2-0 at the 12-minute mark.

“We started the game basically giving them a 5-on-3 advantage,” Janesville coach John Mauermann said. “But we were able to kill that off, and then Tanner gave us a lead right after the penalties were over. That was big.

“Overall, we played pretty well. Tanner had a real nice game for us, and Michael (MacDougall) made some big saves when he had to.”

Janesville pushed the lead to 4-1 after two periods before Woodman and Perkins pushed the lead to 6-2 in the third.

MacDougall made 16 saves in picking up the win.
