Janesville Craig falls in double OT

— Janesville Craig suffered a 73-69 double overtime loss Tuesday to host Madison West in Big Eight Conference boys basketball.

Craig fell to 4-15 overall and 4-11 in the Big Eight. West improved to 10-9 and 9-6.


Each team scored six points in the first OT, but the Regents gained a 13-9 advantage in the second overtime for the victory. Malik Clements scored 20 points through the fourth quarter and the two overtimes to pace West.


Craig held a 34-23 lead at the half, but West gained a 21-10 advantage in the third quarter to knot the game at 44 heading into the fourth quarter. Both teams had a chance to win the game in the final seconds of regulation, but neither could convert and the teams went into the first OT tied at 54.


The Cougars made just 18 of 34 free throws, while West went 12 for 23 from the line.


“We missed free throws,” Craig assistant coach Bob Richards said “That’s the story.’’


Brent Pickarts and Paul Foster scored 19 points apiece and Cameron Wright added 12 for Craig. For West, Kwame Latimer scored 16 points, Noble Jackson-Bey added 14 points and Malcom Wilson chipped in 10 points.
