Fort ruins perfect season, other scores

Marie Fitzgerald put an end to the Monona Grove’s girls basketball team’s perfect season Tuesday night.


The Fort Atkinson senior made a three-point basket at the buzzer to lift the visiting Black Hawks to a 45-44 Badger South win over the Silver Eagles.


Fort Atkinson (9-8, 3-4) led by 13 at half but had to rally late to pull off the upset. Fitzgerald led the Black Hawks with 16.


Monona Grove, which suffered its first loss in 17 games, got 17 points from Taylor Nelson.

Elkhorn gave Southern Lakes leader Lake Geneva Badger all it could handle Tuesday, but the Badgers rolled to 65-58 overtime victory in girls basketball.


Badger improved to 13-5 overall and 9-2 in the Lakes. Elkhorn falls to 6-10 and 5-5.


Karina Reeves scored 10 of her 17 points in the overtime to put Badger over the top.


Emma Kopp made five of Badger’s nine three-point baskets and finished with a game-high 18 points. Grace Ames scored 17 points for the Elks. Erin Schahczinski scored 14 points for Elkhorn and teammate Jessica Hauser chipped in 13.

The Comets’ Amanda McLernon scored 12 of her game-high 17 points in the second half. Teammates Emily Paul and Sarah Rendon scored 13 and 11 points respectively.
