— Janesville Craig used free throws to earn its best boys basketball win of the season Saturday night.

The Cougars made 12 of 21 free throws in the final eight minutes to upset host Middleton, 58-53, in a Big Eight Conference game.

Senior forwards Cameron Wright and Peter Cooney led the Cougar charge with 13 and 10 points, respectively, but there were several other key contributions as Craig knocked off the conference’s second-place team.

Craig is 4-12 in the league and 4-15 overall, but the Cougars stayed with the Cardinals (13-3, 14-5) the entire way.

The game was tied at 13-all after one quarter and 25-all at halftime.

Junior center William Eden came off the bench and provided four key points in the second quarter.

The Cougars took command in the third quarter, thanks in part to four free throws from Eden.

Craig led 38-33 going into the fourth quarter and had leads ranging from seven to nine points most of the final quarter. The Cardinals were forced to foul, and Craig made just enough free throws to stay in control.

Troy Malmanger scored nine points, including a 6-of-6 performance from the line in the last quarter.

Antoine Buchanon led the Cardinals with 16 points
