Wolverines turn back Comets, other scores

The deficit wasn’t as large as the first time Delavan-Darien lost to Waterford this season, but the Wolverines were able to pull away for another Southern Lakes Conference boys basketball victory Friday night.

Waterford outscored the host Comets, 11-3, in the third quarter en route to a 55-36 victory.

The Wolverines (9-3 in the SLC, 12-6 overall) defeated Delavan-Darien, 73-37, at Waterford in December. The Comets trailed by 10 at halftime, 29-19, Friday but the Wolverines used the third quarter to take command.

Chris Benavides scored 16 points to lead Waterford.

Justin Held led the Comets (1-11, 2-17) with 16 points.

-- Burlington 64, Badger 24—The Demons remained in first place in the Southern Lakes with the easy victory Friday night.

Badger failed to reach double figures in all four quarters.

-- Elkhorn 43, Union Grove 38—The Elks used a balanced scoring attack in posting the Southern Lakes upset.

Elkhorn led by one after three quarters and outscored Union Grove 16-12 in the fourth.

Matt Wolff scored 14 points, while teammate Andrew Kazikowski added 10 points in the loss for Union Grove.
