Not guilty plea entered in crash injury incident

— A Lake Geneva man charged in connection with a traffic crash that seriously injured a Lake Geneva teacher pleaded not guilty to four charges Thursday.

Jose A. Rodriguez Soto, 29, appeared with his attorney before Walworth County Judge John Race and reserved his right to demand a speedy trial. His case was continued until March 9 for a status conference.

Rodriguez Soto is charged with reckless driving causing great bodily harm, operating without a valid driver's license causing great bodily harm, possession of THC and possession of drug paraphernalia. He remains in custody in the Walworth County Jail on a $3,000 cash bond and an immigration hold.

The crash took place at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Dodge Street in Lake Geneva. According to the criminal complaint, a vehicle driven by Rodriguez Soto struck the vehicle operated by Carol A. Nocek, a fifth-grade teacher at Central-Denison Elementary School in Lake Geneva.

The complaint indicated Rodriguez Soto's vehicle was traveling between 40 and 50 mph in a 25 mph zone.

Nocek suffered a fractured pelvis, fractured hip and bruised intestines in the Jan. 7 crash. She was taken to Lakeland Medical Center and later flown by Flight for Life to Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, Wauwatosa.
