Whitewater wins battle of leaders, other scores

Whitewater dominated Tuesday night’s battle of girls Rock Valley Conference leaders.


The Whippets led by six at half before pulling away in the third quarter for a 54-40 win over Brodhead.


Whitewater (15-1, 11-0), ranked seventh in the state in Division 2, improved to 11-0 in the Rock Valley North and 15-1 overall.


Sophomore Brooke Trewyn had 19 points for the Whippets, and Nicole Masterson added 13.


Brodhead (14-3, 9-2), which remains atop the Rock Valley South, got 17 points from Taylor Douglas and 11 from Carly Mohns.

Southern Lakes

Lake Geneva Badger took a half-game lead in the Southern Lakes Conference girls basketball race with a 54-52 victory over visiting Westosha Central on Tuesday night.


Badger is 8-2 in the Southern Lakes and 12-5 overall. Idle Union Grove is 7-2 in the conference.


Lana Wieseman led the Badgers with 20 points. The 6-foot senior guard/forward made all four of her free throws in the final quarter.


Karina Reeves added 18 points, including a 5-of-6 performance from the line in the last quarter. Badger was 13 of 16 from the line in the fourth.


Westosha is 2-8, 3-12.
