Janesville Craig, Parker gymnasts earn dual meet wins

Janesville Craig’s gymnastics team ended the Big Eight Conference dual-meet season on a high note Tuesday.

Ashley Pohlman won vault and the all-around to lead the Cougars to a 136.9-134.4 Big Eight win over the co-op team of Verona/Madison Edgewood. Craig finished 6-1 in the Big

“The girls are really stepping up their routines as we gear up for the conference and sectional meets,” Craig coach Jean Welch said. “That’s a pretty good team score for us and it’s consistent with where we’ve been.

“Ashley Pohlman had a great meet, and a number of other girls stepped it up, as well.”

Craig competes in the Mukwonago Invitational on Saturday.

-- Parker 130.40, Elkhorn 127.275—The host Vikings wrapped up the regular season with the nonconference win over the Elks.

Sophomore Hailey Leisten won the balance beam and floor exercise for Parker and finished second in the all-around.

“As a team, we’re staying very consistent as far as our scores go,” Parker coach Cathy Lehmann said. “That’s what you want to see at this point of the season.

“I was really proud of the way seniors Meridith Little and Maddie Seichter performed tonight.”

Parker competes in the Big Eight Conference Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 18.
