Burlington avoids Elkhorn upset bid

Elkhorn had first-place Burlington on the ropes, but the visiting Demons pulled out a 58-53 Southern Lakes Conference boys basketball victory Tuesday night.


The Elks (4-7 in the SLC, 9-9 overall) led 46-45 with four minutes to go. Burlington then jumped ahead behind five points from senior guard Nick Reda.


Elkhorn had a chance to regain the lead in the final minute, but missed the front end of a bonus. Burlington then pulled away with free throws.


Senior guard Tim Peterson led the Demons (9-2, 7-6) with 15 points.


Danny Dessent had 13 points and Matt Smith 12 for Elkhorn.

-- Westosha 57, Badger 45—Dalton Sjong scored 23 points to lead visiting Westosha Central past Lake Geneva Badger.


Sjong had 18 points in the first three quarters to help the Falcons build a 48-31 lead. Jason Castona added 12 points as Westosha went to 5-6 in the Southern Lakes and 7-12 overall.


Jacob Growel led the Badgers (2-8, 4-14) with 17 points, including three three-pointers. Ian Weber had 11 points, while Jacob Kozlowski had 10.
