Arrowhead edges Janesville Bluebirds
Jared Johnson’s second goal of the game just 45 seconds into the second period proved to be the game-winner as Hartland Arrowhead held off visiting Janesville, 3-2, in a nonconference hockey game Tuesday night.
Connor Perkins gave Janesville a 1-0 lead with a rebound goal 4½ minutes into the game.
Arrowhead (11-10-1) responded with two consecutive goals, with the go-ahead goal coming on a power play.
Janesville’s Ethan Eno tied the game late in the first period. Eno redirected a wide shot into the net.
Johnson stole the puck early in the second period and put a shot in the top corner for the game-winner.
“After that, the goalies kept playing solid,” Janesville coach John Mauermann said. “We had a puck three-quarters past the line, but a defenseman pulled it back. We had a couple shots hit the post, and in the final minutes, had a couple of shots that went wide.
“The effort was there,” Mauermann said. “The guys did a good job.”
The Bluebirds (12-9-1) play at first-place Verona (20-1-1) in a Big Eight Conference game at 7 p.m. Thursday. Verona is 10-1-1 in the Big Eight, while Janesville is 5-6-1.
