— The Republican Party of Walworth County at its recent annual caucus endorsed Elkhorn attorney Dan Necci, a candidate for Walworth County district attorney.

Necci, the only announced candidate for the post, lives in Delavan. In a news release, Necci said he is the first candidate for Walworth County district attorney to be endorsed by the county Republican Party in 25 years.

A former potential opponent, Rock County Assistant District Attorney Richard Sullivan, announced Thursday he would not be a candidate. Sullivan lives in Walworth.

Several Walworth County officials have endorsed Necci including Assembly Rep. Tyler August, Delavan Mayor Mel Nieuwenhuis, village of Walworth Chief of Police Christ Severt and Genoa city Chief of Police John Mara.

The winner of November's election for Walworth County district attorney will succeed current district attorney Phil Koss.

Koss announced he would not run for re-election. He is the only announced candidate to succeed Walworth County Circuit Court Judge Robert Kennedy, who is not seeking re-election.
