Janesville Craig’s depth key to gymnastics victory over Memorial
Depth was the difference for Janesville Craig’s gymnastics team Thursday night.
The Cougars, behind first-place finishes from Ashley Pohlman on vault and Ashley McGoey on floor exercise, edged Madison Memorial, 135.075-132.425, in a Big Eight Conference meet at Craig.
Pohlman won the vault with a score of 9.25, and McGoey tied Caroline Smith for first on floor exercise with a score of 9.5.
“Considering everybody but Ashley struggled on vault, our first rotation, the girls really stepped it up after that,” Craig coach Jean Welch said. “They pulled it together and were able to hold off what is a pretty good Memorial team.”
Craig, 6-1 in the Big Eight, wraps up the Big Eight dual-meet season Tuesday when it hosts Verona.
