Iowa beats UW in OT
MADISON Iowa snapped the University of Wisconsin’s three-game Big Ten women’s basketball winning streak, stopping the Badgers, 85-79, in the Kohl Center on Thursday night.
Taylor Wurtz hit a three-pointer to draw the Badgers even with the Hawkeyes, 73-73, with 1:10 left in regulation. Both teams missed opportunities to win the game in the remaining time.
The game was tied at 77-all with 2:48 left, before the Hawkeyes took command with eight straight points.
The Badgers (4-6 in the Big Ten, 8-14 overall) lost despite hitting 11 three-pointers.
Wurtz tied a career-high with 27 points, and also had eight rebounds. Morgan Paige added 17 points and Jade Davis had 16.
“Taylor (Wurtz) had a great game,” said UW coach Bobbie Kelsey. “Jade (Davis) had a great game, and we need one more person scoring a little bit more with Anya (Covington) being out. We’re not a one-person band here.”
Morgan Johnson led Iowa with 27 points. Hawkeye standout Jaime Printy was injured late in regulation.
