The free-throw line was kind to Janesville Craig’s girls basketball team Thursday night.

The Cougars made 26 free throws, including a perfect 10-for-10 in the fourth quarter, in rallying past Sun Prairie, 49-46, in a Big Eight Conference game.

Craig (8-6, 7-5) trailed by a point after three quarters but took the lead for good on Kristi Crandall’s three-point basket with six minutes left to play. Crandall, a junior point guard, led Craig with 19 points. She made all eight of her free-throw attempts as the Cougars finished 26-for-32 at the line.

“We made our free throws, and that was the difference,” Craig coach Kerry Storbakken said. “The game was back and forth the entire way. Kristi’s three was the big basket of the game.

“It’s always good to win on the road in our conference. Sun Prairie’s got a couple of kids back, and they’re a much different team than we saw the first time.”

Craig fell behind 16-7 early but battled back to eventually tie the game 24-24 at half.

The Cougars play at Beloit Memorial on Saturday night.
