— A house fire just east of Beloit on Wednesday night resulted in minimal damage, in part because of quick response by two fire departments.

No one knows who called 911, but firefighters from the towns of Turtle and Beloit were dispatched at 9:22 p.m. Wednesday to 8908 S. Creek Road.

Turtle Fire Chief Tim Huffman said firefighters arrived quickly, catching the fire while it was still in the wall and

before it got to the attic, preventing more extensive damage.

"Another couple of minutes, and I tell you, we would've had a serious problem," Huffman said.

No one was home at the time, and no one was injured fighting the fire.

The fire is believed to have started in a baseboard heater in the living room, but the cause remains under investigation, according to a Rock County Sheriff's Office news release.

Damage to the structure was estimated at $15,000. That doesn't include damage to contents of the house, mainly from smoke damage, Huffman said.

Parts of East Huebbe Parkway and South Creek Road were closed for several hours. Emergency crews remained on scene until about 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

Jason R. Peach was listed as the homeowner.

The Clinton Fire Department and city of Beloit ambulance also were called to the scene.
