MILTON The Milton School District interim superintendent will receive $20,000 on top of her $89,300 annual pay as principal at Milton West and Consolidated elementary schools, according to a news release from the school district.
Theresa Rusch was appointed interim superintendent after superintendent Mike Garrow went on a paid leave for the rest of the school year. He has agreed to resign June 30.
Rusch was appointed interim superintendent from Nov. 30 through June 30.
Garrow will receive full pay and benefits until June 30. The Milton School Board agreed to provide Garrow with a $35,000 severance payment in addition to his salary and benefits during his leave. Garrow is paid $122,000 a year.
Garrow's resignation followed a board investigation into complaints that he "inappropriately" fraternized with district staff during social gatherings and used a school computer to access a "possibly inappropriate" picture of a woman whom Garrow says he knows.
Garrow denied any inappropriate behavior. He said he had reached a mutual agreement with the board regarding his leave and resignation.

Joy - I have many friends who have less education and make way more; are all in the private sector. Two are electricians, another one made over $180,000 at Parker Pen (now works for another agency making just as much out of Chicago area), another is a plumber, one who is an accountant and the list goes on and on....

milton17 - personally I do not think this is excessive as there is a great deal to do to bring this district back to normalcy; however, I would like YOU to name all the jobs with a Master's degree and 25 years experience that pay 6 figures, not including such areas as doctors and lawyers. I would suspect most of them would be in the public sector, at least in this general area. I suspect there are not that many private sector jobs at that rate even in Madison and Milwaukee, at least as a percentage of people who actually have master's degrees and that much experience.

fear - I imagine his continued pay + severance includes a clause which states he can't sue the school district. If that wasn't the case, they wouldn't be shelling out the money.

Mrs. Rusch is terrific. Well said, Miss Scarlett. Dicktracey: You should shadow these administrators to see if they earn their pay. They do.

Maybe there should be some more focus on gossip town USA and the paper that essentially covered it all. Get ready to get your pants sued off you MSD. You defamated this mans charecter for nothing!! For what? A picture of a woman in a bathing suit and a few beers in a public volleyball league? Garrow will have a hard time getting a job as an administrator and it is directly because of the knitting circles in Milton and all of the assumers on these boards. If someone would have defamed me so publicly without cause I would be lawyering up as well. Who wouldn't?

Shouldn't the school board fund this out of their own pockets? Call it the fumble fee...

Congratulations to Theresa Rusch, and good luck in your interim position. Your years of experience will help you be a successful leader for the school district. It's too bad this article didn't tell us more about you instead of focusing on Garrow.

She has worked in the district for over 25 years and has a masters degree and you think $89,000 is overpaid??? Wow, name any other professional job that is that low after 25 years and that much education!
