Sixth candidate to run for city council seat
JANESVILLE Julie Broda, 41, of 2719 Black Bridge Road, is the sixth person to seek election to one of four open seats on the Janesville City Council.
Broda listed her occupation on her declaration of candidacy papers as being in administration. She has not sought public office before.
Residents who want to run for council must pick up nomination papers from the city clerk's office, 18 N. Jackson St. They must gather no fewer than 200 signatures but not more than 400 signatures.
The papers must be returned to City Hall by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2.
The two-year terms of four incumbents will be open in April.
Incumbent Russ Steeber will not seek re-election. Incumbents Sam Liebert and DuWayne Severson are seeking re-election.
Incumbent Deb Dongarra-Adams has not announced her intentions.
Already circulating nomination papers are Brian Fitzgerald, Jerry Smythe and Sarah Carter.

We need conservatives on the council. "Tea party" supporters would be ideal.
If candidates signed the Walker recall petition, it shows how out of touch they really are. Avoid them at all costs. Not avoiding them will only cost taxpayers.

Sarah Carter signed the recall petition - beware of her - she has shown she wants to spend your money. She would be in the Farrell, Liebert, Steeber camp. Broda and Smythe did not sign.
