— The Rock County District Attorney's Office is dropping traffic charges against a Whitewater man accused of stabbing two girls and fleeing from police with two children in the car.

Larry M. Shannon, 40, is in custody at the Walworth County Jail, Elkhorn, on a $1 million bond.

Shannon led authorities on a two-county, high-speed chase Oct. 29 that started in Whitewater and ended in Beloit. On Dec. 7, he pleaded not guilty in Walworth County Court to 14 charges, including attempted homicide, sexual assault of a child, false imprisonment and strangulation.

The Rock County traffic charges included recklessly endangering safety and a number of traffic violations that were a result of the chase through Rock County. A Wisconsin State Patrol trooper rammed Shannon's car to end the chase in Beloit.

The traffic charges could be re-issued depending on the result of the Walworth County case, District Attorney David O'Leary said.
