Badger survives rally

— Lake Geneva Badger High held a comfortable 22-12 halftime lead, but had to survived Brookfield East's second-half charge to take a 52-51 victory Monday in nonconference boys basketball.

Josh Byrd scored all of his game-high 21 points in the second half to lead the Spartans, including 16 of Brookfield East's 23 points in the fourth quarter.

Brookfield East made 10 of 17 free throws, while Badger went to the line for two attempts and missed both. Badger's Ian Weber scored 15 points on five three-point baskets.

Girls

Madison La Follette High defeated host Monroe, 56-42, Monday in nonconference girls basketball.

Nicole Newman, a 6-2 junior, scored 12 of her game-high 24 points in the second quarter as La Follette held a 30-22 lead at the half. The Cheesemakers cut the deficit to 30-25 in the third but could draw no closer the rest of the way.

Taylor Barrett scored 15 points for Monroe, which dropped to 0-5.
