— A Genoa City man received a five-year prison sentence Friday after pleading guilty to having sex with a young girl he knows.

Glenn May III, 21, will spend 10 years under extended supervision after his prison term. He faced a maximum of 60 years.

May pleaded guilty Aug. 2 to sexual assault of a child under the age of 13.

Assistant Public Defender Travis Schwantes said he was disappointed in the sentence because the girl spoke during May’s sentencing against May being sent to prison. Schwantes said he argued for probation while Walworth County Deputy District Attorney Joshua Grube argued for prison.

Amended charges filed Aug. 1 accused May of sexual contact with a child under the age of 13. The incident occurred March 31 in the village of Bloomfield, according to the complaint.

May originally was charged with the repeated sexual assault of a child between Aug. 15, 2008, and April 3, 2012, according to a criminal complaint. That charge was dismissed.
