— Verona defeated Janesville Craig, 6-1, in Big Eight Conference boys tennis Monday.

The visiting Cougars (2-5 overall, 0-2 Big Eight) were swept in singles, but Craig’s No. 2 doubles team of Zack Hardin and Joe Worple came through for the team’s lone victory.

Hardin and Worple defeated Jamie Gerlach and Austin Gerdes, 6-0, 1-6, 6-3, to improve to 5-1 on the season.

“I couldn’t be more proud of Joe and Zack,” Craig coach Justin Long said.

Long said the Wildcats are one of the top teams in the conference if not in the state.

Craig plays today at home against Sun Prairie in another Big Eight match.
