— Craig High bounced back from an early deficit Monday to post a 5-2 victory over visiting Lake Geneva Badger in nonconference baseball.

The victory lifts Craig to 8-2 overall.

The Badgers scored single runs in the first and second innings off starter Troy Malmanger for a 2-0 lead. Craig scored a run in the third and added three runs in the fourth to take the lead for good at 4-2.

Brett Pickarts relieved Malmanger in the third and blanked the Badgers the rest of the way. Pickarts had six strikeouts and walked none.

“Pickarts never faced more than four batters in an inning,” Craig coach Victor Herbst said. “He kept his pitches in the strike zone.’’

Herbst was happy to see Pickarts’ strong performance.

“Brett has not had a lot of opportunities to pitch because the others have done such a good job,” Herbst said. “He did a nice job.’’

Nick Blomgren had two hits, including a double, to lead Craig’s five-hit attack.

Craig hosts Parker at 5 p.m. today at Riverside Park.
