— The Janesville Parker softball team used strong pitching, a steady defense and an offense that took advantage of defensive lapses to run its winning steak to three Saturday.

The Vikings swept Beloit Memorial, 4-3 and 3-2, in a Big Eight Conference doubleheader here.

“We always play Beloit close,” Parker coach Jenni Seisser said. “I was pleased the way the team played.”

Parker built a 4-0 lead in the first game and junior pitcher Erin Muehlenkamp made it stand up. Muehlenkamp struck out five and allowed just four hits and walked one in the victory.

Muehlenkamp also went 2-for-4 with a double in Parker’s five-hit attack.

The Vikings had to rally from a 2-0 deficit in the second game. Parker scored all three of its runs in the third inning, taking advantage of three straight Purple Knight errors.

Senior Ashley Ross held Beloit to six hits, while striking out four and walking two.

“Erin and Ashley pitched

really well,” Seisser said. “Ashley was able to get strikeouts in important spots, and our defense played well behind them.”

Kayce Chesebro and Karlee Fowler each had two hits in the game.

“Defensively we’re starting to click,” Seisser said. “And we’re finally hitting the ball better than we have been.

Parker improved to 3-4 in the Big Eight and 3-7 overall.

Beloit is 3-5 and 4-6.

Parker plays a makeup game at Middleton on Monday, plays Madison East at home Tuesday and is at Madison West on Thursday.
