— Ashley Hartwig and Kristin Zeilinger each won an event Friday night to lead Janesville Parker’s girls track and field team to a fifth-place finish at the Parker Invitational at Monterey Stadium.

Verona ran away with the team title, finishing with 173 points. Franklin was second with 107, while Parker was fifth with 69.

Hartwig won the discus with a throw of 101-5, and Zeilinger won the pole vault at 9-0.

“Our young group of kids keeps improving,” Parker coach Dave Lehmann said. “That’s the most important thing.

“This has always been a very tough meet because I invite quality teams each year. This year was no different, although Verona was in a league of their own.”

Miranda Slaback was second in the 1,600 for Parker and anchored the 3,200 relay team that finished second.
